Writing. Trying to define something that seems simple, apparently, isn’t so simple. According to Merriam-Webster: writing – noun – 1) the act or process of one who writes such as: a. the act or art of forming visible letters or characters specifically HANDWRITING…
My brain understands writing as – verb – 1) taking a device such as a pen or keyboard and physically transcribing random thoughts into something to read and/or understand, specifically DICTATION.
Now here we are. A fairly new year awaits to be unfolded and revealed one day at a time. My writing, noun or verb, is bubbling to the surface and like lava from a volcano, it must find an outlet. Hence, janicekennett.com.
Once upon a time these random words and stories were published in a newspaper. My column, RAMBLING ON, was canned because I was unwilling to compromise on my Biblical world-view. Years later, here we are. I own my domain name and only answer to my Heavenly Father. Many times, I feel like I’m taking dictation.
Just a few days left in January 2023 and I can see February peeking around the corner; much like my daffodil bulbs. It’s funny how the tiny green tips break the surface. When they first emerge, they really look like a bird’s beak, only green. Tiny bits of color pushing up with a promise of a delightful yellow display. Bulbs always remind me of hidden treasure. Even when everything above ground is dead or dormant, I know these gems are safely tucked away and will make an appearance in due time. The above picture was taken using a quarter as reference. If I remember correctly, these bulbs will yield a two-tone flower.
My walk around the house in the cold damp weather was rewarded by these yellow faces. They bloom so early, they are most often forgotten and overlooked. They were a gift from a friend and I have no idea what variety they are.
The pansies never made it to the planter and I decided to use a photo from last year at the very top of the blog. Every year I promise myself to plant a few purple pansies. If my trip to the local home ‘n garden store counted as progress, I at least LOOKED at pansies. In fact, I made a special trip to the store just to buy pansies. The selection was less than impressive. There’s always next year. (grin)
The lawnmower is napping. My garden trowel is in hibernation. My gloves may need to be replaced this coming season. All in all, there will always be something to prune, purge or plant.
In other news, I am off to a good start with our little homestead group. Mr. K and I have bought the necessary components to create an alcohol burner with a paint can and toilet paper. Stay tuned. I really look forward to a blog with this project. As valuable as toilet paper is, you know I’m serious about giving up a roll to create some heat. 🙂
