Dear TC,

Today is July 01, 2026.  I scrubbed the birdbath for the ump-teenth time. Who knew we had such dirty birds?  The  fresh water was poured in and tomorrow, it will be dirty again.  Small price to pay to see the Eastern Bluebirds so close to the house.  Did I tell you they laid a second clutch of eggs?  I can hear these newest babies making tiny noises in the bird house. My favorite birds are doing well.

With the birdbath full and waiting, I wandered over to the fence where you used to stand.  There was once a well-worn spot at the bottom of the chain-link.  The grass has nearly filled it in, erasing where you stood.  Using the toe of my shoe, I pushed the grass back and could feel the slight indentation where you once stood.  I planted myself in that spot and remembered how many times I’d seen you there.  You’d be watching a video on your phone and “burning one”,  as you used to say.  You never really managed to kick smoking, but, you were very mindful of me and my blood-hound-nose.

I poised, remembering, as dusk was creeping in around me.  The fireflies were lifting from the ground.  It never ceases to put a smile on my face.  Tiny pin-pricks of light in the darkening night.  Yellow or greenish-yellow and coming from a tiny bug butt.  Truly, our Heavenly Father has a sense of humor!  HE must have been smiling when HE created them.  “Hey y’all!  Watch this!”  Of course my Father in Heaven speaks ‘Southern’.  (grin)

Today I opened my blog admin section.  I wanted to update something.  It’s been so long, I  couldn’t even remember how to ask for help.  I’ll get it, eventually.  I still  struggle adding photos.

Honestly, it was easier when I handed my writing to the editor I was working with at the time.  It was also easier when someone else was the administrator on the web site at the time.  Maybe I can take a class….Do you suppose it’s possible t teach an old dog a new trick?  That look on your face makes me smile!

I cooked pork chops for supper.  Center cut,  boneless chops, coated in flour and fried properly.  We don’t fry a lot in the Kennett household, but pork chops – we fry well.  You used to call it “fried flour”.  When you were little, you called them “chick  chops”.  I’m loving the good memories!

So much for a boring day here in my oasis.  These few acres are truly becoming a retreat.  (sigh)

Until I see you again, keep walking with Jesus!

I love you!     Mom
